Welcome to Autumn and the crisp, sunny mornings, the trees starting to change colour, warm jumpers and maybe even the first blast of central heating. And maybe you’ve decided to join us in the Eat Better to Feel Better programme, so it’s a great time to start taking your healthy homemade soup in a flask for your lunch on the go (check out the feature below).

Since our last issue there's been another announcement from Boris and many new rules, guidelines and mandatory requirements have now been introduced to help curb the infection rate of Coronavirus. What does this mean to you as a professional driver? You will probably encounter more people wearing face coverings through your day but it largely continues to be “business as usual”.

Here at Driver Require, we are continuing to take on new clients and the forecast is that there will be a substantial uplift in requirements for drivers from the middle of October (half term) through to December as Christmas deliveries ramp up.

So, we are busily recruiting across all the branches and you can keep an eye out for us on social media over the next few weeks as we continue our search for more great drivers like you.

And if you have any driver friends who might be looking for work, get in touch – there’s a £100 Refer-A-Friend bonus for you for each introduction you make.

Our Stevenage office has put forward Jason De Vall as our September Driver of the Month. Jason originally registered with us as a Class 2 driver but very shortly afterwards gained his Class 1 licence (well done!) but he will drive any vehicle class for any client and is incredibly flexible on times and shifts.

Jason, you’ve been a great ambassador for Driver Require and we’d like to say a huge thank you for all your hard work, commitment and your great work ethic.

GIVING THANKS TO OUR DRIVERS....

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TELETRAC NAVMAN AND BRAKE, THE ROAD SAFETY CHARITY, WE’RE PROUD TO SUPPORT THE "WHO IS A COMMERICAL DRIVER" CAMPAIGN.

This year, so many commercial drivers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, day and night, sacrificing so much for everyone else around them.

Bob Winter from Driver Require Ltd who has been an HGV driver for over 40 years, says that this year has been particularly meaningful to him. “To think that most commercial drivers have been doing things so worthwhile for the UK recently, literally keeping us all fed” is a huge achievement.

Fellow driver Andrew Collins agreed, saying that working throughout the lock down was, to him, a privilege. “I was very grateful… working daily during that period gave me a sense of purpose, and a feeling of being really able to contribute.” A heartfelt message to sign off, Collins added a genuine “thank you to Driver Require, for helping me to help the nation, and the ones I love.”

Have you ever thought about going “Sober for October” in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, but then realised you have a couple of nights out planned and that family birthday in the middle of the month so you can’t give it 100% and put it off to do dry January instead?

Well, Macmillan Cancer Support have recognised that 2020 has been somewhat of a challenging year already and have launched “Sober(ish) October” instead. You can now choose to hold back on the booze for either 14 days, 21 days or you can still go for the full term of 31 days, all to raise vital funds for their charity.

Whichever challenge you choose there will be many health benefits to having a break from drinking alcohol; these include increased energy levels, losing weight, clearer skin and experiencing better sleep and not to mention the absence of the hangovers!

Last month we looked at healthy eating on the go. How many of you have been making healthier choices for your lunch? There are so many tasty and healthy options out there to choose from when you look closer or prepare ahead.

This month we are looking at Healthy Eating in general. It is a challenge when you may be working unsociable shifts and even doing nights out in the cab.

If you are a night driver your breakfast may feel like your dinner and your dinner may feel like your breakfast – it's all upside down! Then a couple of rest days throw out your routine again. This is not a great healthy eating cycle to be in, so your food choices are all the more important.

It is recommended that you eat a balanced meal before arriving at work for your night shift – this provides a good base to help you get you through your shift. When talking of a balanced meal this should contain fibre or carbs like pasta or potatoes, a good source of protein like lean meat or fish and a good amount of vegetables.
