February has arrived and I don’t know about you, but I find it a bit of a funny month. We have got through January with all the new and fresh expectations that come with a New Year, we have maybe nailed our resolutions and are feeling on top of the world, or we maybe didn’t stick to our resolutions and are feeling like we have failed.

When I need energising which is a lot during the shorter days of winter I reach for a good playlist with great beats and maybe something I can sing along to. I love my Spotify (other streaming services are available) and each year they share with you your Most Played of the year. You are probably not aware that I am a spinning teacher as well as the Senior Resourcer for Driver Require so you can imagine my Most Played are generally very high energy tracks - all 5+ hours – if you fancy a listen, you can find me on Spotify under my name and have a follow.

Marian joined us in 2019 as an LGV1 Night Driver and has proved a true asset to ourselves and the Transport Team at Ocado’s Dordon Depot ever since. He carves an extremely useful niche as a highly flexible and capable individual on the Night runs, with a large availability window on any given working day.

'He’s a favourite with the Dordon Team, who will always accept him as an extra driver on thinner days, due to his willingness and is regarded by them as ‘Marian – The Legend.’

He never complains, and I was amazed when he opted to remain as a PAYE Driver following IR35 implementation in April 2021, a move which lost him many travels expense benefits enjoyed under his previous LTD Company status.

I’ve asked Marian on several past occasions about taking a permanent role, but he always declines, replying that ‘I’m happy with you guys, because you always look after me.’

In an industry where quality service and customer perception is only as good as the people employed in its undertaking, Marian is a shining example of three-way contentment achieved by all parties:

Have you always been in recruitment? If not, what did you do before? Before Recruitment I served in my county Regiment The Staffordshire Regiment for 23 years then 12 years in the Military Provost Guard service.
