Hello from everyone at Driver Require, and welcome to your October edition of The Extra Mile!
October isn’t just about changing seasons, it’s also a month full of important awareness
campaigns that matter to many of us on the road and off it:
World Mental Health Day (10th Oct) – a reminder to check in with yourself and your mates. Even a short chat can go a long way.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month – early detection saves lives. If something doesn’t feel right, get it checked (both male and females).
Black History Month – celebrating Black culture, history and the incredible contributions made across the UK and beyond.
World Menopause Day (18th Oct) – supporting open conversations around women's health, both in and out of the workplace.
We know life on the road can be isolating at times, so if you're ever in need of support, advice or just someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to reach out – we’re
always here.
On the logistics side, the momentum is real. The shift toward cleaner transport, investment in electric fleet trials, and increased pressure to plug driver shortages continue to shape our sector. We’re tracking all the key moves and we’ll bring you what matters most in this month’s news round‑up.
Driver Tips with Ian
Our Head of Marketing, Katy, recently went out on the road with our Lead Driver, Ian, filming some valuable insight for our drivers.
Throughout the day, Ian covers various tips he's picked up throughout his many years of being on the road. From manual entries
advice, to WD40 and checking your lights - we've had some great feedback on our social media channels.
We've also recently uploaded these to our website, under 'Driver Insight' - take a look and let us know what you think!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on Tuesday 23rd September. We're delighted to share we raised £253 - a shoutout to our friends at 1decision for coming along and sharing a sweet bite with us.
There's still time to donate if you'd like to, you can do so below:
Christmas.... it's closer than many of us like to admit! Please let your local branch know your availability so we can plan ahead for the busy period.
Want to earn some extra money? Refer a Friend to us and when they complete 13 shifts, we will give you £200. No limit on how many friends you can refer! Speak to your local branch for more info (Terms & Conditions apply).
Driver of the Month 🚛
Our Driver of the Month for October is
Richard Mullen from our Ocado Erith team.
The team put Richard forward after receiving an email from Ocado's Transport Manager sharing how due to a few errors, Richard had to be diverted from his usual run to a different one. None of the errors were due to Richard and he had to drive an unfamiliar route with little preparation. He stayed calm and did the job fantastically.
As a big "THANK YOU" for being a Driver Require Superhero, we will be sending Riachard a £25 Amazon gift card. Thank you for your hard work and commitment, Richard – we are proud to have you as part of the Driver Require Team!
