Gaining Experience as a New Pass Driver🚛
On one of our recent LinkedIn posts, we had a comment from a driver sharing his frustrations of being unable to gain experience as a new pass. We hear you, and we understand the frustration many new pass drivers face when it comes to gaining that all important experience. It can seem like a catch-22 situation: you need experience to get opportunities, but you need opportunities to gain some experience. We thought it would be useful to share some light on this matter.

Client Requirements
As a recruitment agency, we work closely with a diverse range of clients in the haulage industry. Many of these clients have specific requirements for the drivers they hire, which often include a minimum of 2 years' experience. These requirements are not set by us but are established by our clients. While hauliers often require 2 years’ experience in the category of vehicle, it may be possible to work for that company in a ‘lower category’ vehicle for which you have the required experience and, once you have reached the relevant time requirement, move into your target category. For example a C+E driver with 18 months on their licence, but who has 10 years of cat C experience, could work for a haulier doing Cat C for 6 months before agreeing with them to transfer to C+E on their 2nd anniversary.

Slowly Changing Landscape
However, it's important to note that the haulage community is gradually becoming more open to hiring new pass drivers. We do have a select number of customers who are willing to consider new passes for their teams. Usually, these opportunities arise when experienced drivers are not readily available, such as during peak periods like late summer and pre-Christmas.

Your Journey Matters

We understand that your journey as a new pass driver may have its challenges, but we want you to know that your dedication and determination matter to us. We're here to support you in every way we can and to help you navigate your path in this industry. Together, we'll work towards creating more opportunities for new pass drivers.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team.

Our Driver of the Month for October is Mariusz Zubrowski from our Stevenage branch. The team nominated Mariusz due to his hard working and positive nature. The team said" Mariusz deserves this as he drives in Allied Bakeries for us and when volumes are inconsistent, Mariusz is always happy to help us out on other contracts like Chapmans or Curry’s whether the start times are morning noon or night. He’s a recruiters dream to work with!"

As a big “THANK YOU” for being a Driver Require Superhero we will be sending Mariusz a £25 Amazon gift card. Thank you for all your hard work Mariusz and for Going the Extra Mile, we are delighted to have you part of the Driver Require Team.
