We're still patiently waiting for the sun to arrive, but summer will soon be on it's way. We're looking forward to shifts picking back up as many of our clients full-time drivers jet off for their holidays.

On the topic of sunshine, the 6th - 13th May is National Sun Awareness Week - even when sitting in your cab the sun can cause damage. We've included some information in this edition to help ensure you stay safe in the sun this summer.

It's going to be a monumental month for the history books with the coronation of King Charles III coming up in just a few days time. With the coronation comes an extra bank holiday on Monday 8th May, so please make sure you still get your timesheets in on time to avoid any delay in your wages. Below you'll find a table with the important information you need when it comes to the bank holidays and your pay.

As always, we would love to hear your feedback on The Extra Mile. Please let us know if there's anything else you'd like to hear about in our next edition.
May Bank Holidays 🚛

There are three bank holidays in May, so please take note of the above deadlines for timesheets to ensure you're paid correctly and on time. Our branches will be closed on Monday 1st, 8th and 29th May but our 24 hour on-call service will continue. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to reach out to the team.
Sun Awareness Week☀️
The above photo demonstrates what 28 years of skin damage can do to a lorry drivers face. For 28 years, the driver has had his left side exposed to UVA rays transmitted through his window – whereas his right side was covered and relatively unharmed.

UVA rays are able to penetrate through glass windows and clouds and chronic exposure can lead to the destruction of the skin’s elastic fibres – which explains the deep wrinkles.
Apart from ageing the skin, they also carry skin cancer risks, due to the breakdown of DNA and direct toxicity.
So it’s crucial that you use suncream every day, even when it’s cloudy outside.
Our Driver of the Month for May is Marius Gherca from Ocado Erith. Our Account Manager, Mike, received an email from the Ocado Team complementing Marius and the fantastic impression he had made on the team.

They expressed how they've had a few stressful days and had asked drivers to make additional efforts on top of their assigned duties and Marius had been 'extra helpful'.

One example was the team had to ask drivers to assist with transhipping a trailer, Marius was at the desk, ready to finish his shift. When the team asked him to assist, he did not hesitate and followed a driver down to assist in the task. He was in good spirits when he returned to the desk and took it all in his stride. He also stepped in to complete a run, even when he'd been assigned a different task and once again, did it all with a smile.

The Ocado Team stated 'It is genuinely a pleasure to work with him' and therefore felt Marius was a very worthy winner of our Driver of the Month award.

As a big “THANK YOU” for being a Driver Require Superhero we will be sending Marius a £25 Amazon gift card. Thank you for all your hard work Marius and for Going the Extra Mile, we are delighted to have you part of the Driver Require Team.
